personality
Eli is a free spirit. As an attending at Seattle Main Hospital, he is expected to always side with science and medicine, but Elijah can't help that he's spiritual. This leads to great patient care which makes the patients and nurses love him. His colleagues typically see him a quirky mess and see him as a weak doctor. However, being one of the youngest attendings in Seattle Main and the country, no one can really deny Eli's talent. This neuro surgeon is patient but that doesn't mean he will allow himself to be walked over. Many say he's passive aggressive. That is until he's been pushed to his limit and become physically aggressive. It's not something he is proud of, but tries hard to fix. Eli is a great friend and a fun person when given the chance. He's dedicated to his work and loyal to his friends and patients.
background
Born and raised in Seattle, Eli has seen it all. He has seen the beauty the city holds, but he has also seen the filth and tragedy. Despite all that, Eli is completely in love with Seattle. When Eli was little, his parents would take family field trips every weekend. They never hit the same place in Seattle twice. Eli fell in love with everything from the coffee shops to the ferry boats to the skyscrapers. His sense of adventure and free spirit was definitely inherited from his parents. They taught him to think for himself and question everything. He grew up curious and as a result skipped several grades. The parents nurtured Eli to fulfill his potential that they knew he had.
It all took a major detour when Elijah's parents got in a deadly car crash. Eli was only fourteen when he lost his mother to the crash. In a way, he lost his father too. His father suffered major memory loss and often lashed out at Eli for being an intruder in their home. Being a minor, Eli and his father had to move in with his aunt in New Mexico. His aunt often crushed his spirits and forced Eli to miss school to take care of his father. Since Eli couldn't get the education he wanted from the public schools, he did his own research. He read material mainly about the brain and that's when he decided that he would become a doctor some day. His aunt scoffed at his dreams.
After years of coping with mental and physical abuse from both his aunt and father, Eli ran away from home and never looked back. He was only seventeen, but his aunt never bothered to call the police so Eli took the opportunity to move back to Seattle. For the majority of his college years, Elijah ran with the wrong crowd. He lived off the generosity of people when he could but mostly fended for himself. The pre-med student started using mild drugs but quit once he felt his mind getting foggy. He had to be sharp if he wanted to get a good scholarship for med school.
At the age of twenty, Eli had tested into several top medical schools and received a scholarship to Northwestern Medical School where he passed with flying colors. Throughout the years, he found his spirituality again and returned to all the places his parents used to take him as a child. At the age of twenty-five, Eli was a resident at Seattle Main Hospital. He took a trip back to New Mexico to visit his father in hopes of getting him into a clinical trial to help his memory loss. That's when he aunt informed him that his father had passed away when Eli was nineteen. Elijah was devastated and started to abuse prescription drugs. He started to lash out verbally and physically. Eli was almost kicked out of residency until his mentor put him on the right track again. Eli composed himself and is now the quirky, dedicated doctor he is today. Although he is a doctor, Elijah smokes as often as he can. He does what he has to, to stay away from prescription drugs. In a place where he has easy access to such drugs, smoking is all he can do to ensure he won't abuse his powers.
