twenty-Five • female • straight • resident - year 2
personality
Nyssa has always had a sweet and happy personality. She's the kind of person that always has a smile on her face. She's very intuitive and can read people easily. At times, she can be a little too trusting, always looking for the good aide of people, and while it makes her a little naive, it also helps her connect with people. She's good with words, always seeming to know what to say. She doesn't have much of a temper but she's not afraid to stand up for herself. She's independent and often hesitates at asking for help, except while she's working at the hospital. But with personal stuff, she usually hesitates.
She refuses to give up with anything. Even if the situation is hopeless, she keeps trying, holding fast to the little bit of hope that she can. Reading has always been her passion and when she was younger, she almost always had a book in hand, disappearing into the worlds written on the pages. Above everything, her faith has always been most important to her. Her absolute trust in God is what got her through a difficult time in her life and she has relied on it ever since. She always wears a cross around her neck that her parents gave to her when she was 15.

background
Nyssa had a typical childhood up to the time she turned 13. She enjoyed school and played piano and soccer. She had a few close friends she would hang out with on weekends. She had no siblings and was very close with both of parents, at least most of the time. She spent rainy afternoons at the library, evenings playing piano or reading a book, and Saturdays on the soccer field. She was a sweet, outgoing girl that loved life and few worries or cares. But then it all changed.
It started with a headache. They came infrequently for a little while and a Tylenol would usually take care of the problem. But then they started getting worse and they grew in intensity. She started missing soccer games and even some school days. So an appointment with her doctor was made, they ran tests and looked her over. And then they diagnosed her with a rare brain disease.
At first, she was on medication and would see the doctor every couple weeks. She could no longer play soccer and only limited time on the piano, but her life remained semi-normal for a couple months. And then she got worse. After a year of treatments and endless medication, surgery could no longer be avoided. She and her parents moved to Seattle to go to the Seattle Main Hospital. She had surgery and was in and out of he hospital for a while until she needed surgery again. It didn't affect her thoughts or fine motor skills, but she struggled moving around. She pretty much moved into the hospital permanently while she fought the disease. For two years, she fought it and many thought she wouldn't make it. But her doctor did. She was the reason Nyssa eventually decided to become a doctor herself. Because of the hope and strength her doctor encouraged her with, Nyssa fought even harder and finally, overcame the disease.
Nyssa recovered and caught up on high school. She got accepted to Northwestern Medical School and worked harder than she ever had to get her degree. After graduating, becoming an intern at the hospital and passing that exam, she's now a resident with full intentions of eventually focusing in pediatrics, doing for the younger generation what her doctor did for her.
