personality
Brennan is probably would you might call the quiet type. He has a difficult time expressing or understanding his own emotions, sometimes coming off as apathetic or cold. Definitely an introvert, he can often be found lost in his own thoughts or doing something such as reading or sitting somewhere alone in his apartment. While he's not opposed to socializing and does so quite often, he's much more comfortable around people he knows. On a bad day Brennan is grumpy, uncooperative, and frustratingly stubborn. If he doesn't want to do something, hell will freeze over before he does it. Also, if he's irritated there's a good chance he'll become rude and thoughtless towards what comes out of his mouth. Brennan has also found himself battling depression throughout his life, possibly a result of his parents' turbulent relationship that finally ended in divorce after Brennan's thirteenth birthday. He has a negative outlook on dating and relationships, refusing to let himself meet someone no matter how good they might be for him.
While he may be a little rough around the edges, Brennan has his positive personality traits. Brennan cares tremendously about the important people in his life, including his close friends and the family he still keeps in contact with. He is also determined, candid, and will usually speak whatever is on his mind. Brennan has also been a kind person, never the type to purposely cause anyone any harm. He is respectful of authority, yet has a difficult time trusting new people in his life.

background
Brennan's life has always been a dull, and almost entirely uneventful. Always sort of a gloomy person, he grew up as an only child to two parents who spent their evenings and nights working. While they were in his life, their presence always seemed to be brief. Perhaps his fondness for loneliness started when he was a child, mainly because he quickly became used to it. His parents bought a two bedroom apartment in Seattle, and he spent most of his child and teenage years there. Although his parents hardly gave their son much attention, it made him become more independent and he knew how to look after himself at an age when most children couldn't. With that being said, he didn't really have much of a childhood when he was cooking his own meals and washing his own laundry. After he turned thirteen, his parents divorced and Brennan was caught in the midst of a custody battle that dragged on for years. His relationship with both of his parents hasn't fared too well since then, preferring to distance himself from them. That mixed in with the bottled up feelings of self-loathing and worthlessness, lead to a deep depression that he struggled to get himself out of.
Brennan always has had a difficult time connecting with people, particularly the other kids in his classes at school. He hated being labeled the quiet kid with issues, but that's precisely how they saw him. He kept to himself, although when someone would make the efforts to talk to him he managed to make friends that he still keeps in contact with to this day. High school was a little more difficult, his patience wearing them through his senior year. Brennan always kept his personal demons to himself, he simply told people that he was a little more introverted than extroverted and went on with his life. He took part in the usual high school rituals, even going to both his junior and senior prom with the same girl. Relationships were always tricky, his difficulty with sharing or even comprehending his emotions made it hard for him to invest in any relationship. He was always faithful and kind, even if he struggled with being as affectionate as he should have been. Long term commitments are sort of terrifying to him. Brennan didn't think college was something he was interest in, although eventually he studied journalism for a year. He had plans to return to college, up until a car accident completely derailed his life almost entirely and nearly killed him.
Growing up, Brennan was a healthy kid who only showed up to the doctor when he had a fever or for regular check ups. Even then the worst thing he came down with was the flu. Hospitals have always made him uneasy, which hasn't helped him cope to the reality that he may be spending more time here than he would care to like. Hit by a drunk driver, Brennan's car was hit on the driver's side causing the car to flip and end up completely turned over beside the road. He was driving home one night after picking up something to eat, and when he awoke he had absolutely no idea where in the hell he was. Upon impact, Brennan suffered immediate head trauma although there wasn't anything severe in terms of brain damage. His recollection of the night of the accident is still unclear, although with treatment it's hopeful that he eventually will get those memories back. His injuries continue to his ribs, several of which where broken due to the blunt force trauma sustained in the accident, puncturing his lungs. His back and neck somehow avoided anything potentially life threatening, although even after his treatment will over it's anticipated they'll cause him some stiffness later on. His right wrist was broken as well as his left femur, possibly the most serious injury. Brennan's recovery time looks to be lengthy, and the bustling hospital is a strange and almost frightening place for him. However, he was promised that the doctors and nurses would give him the best care he could find. That still hasn't stopped his nerves from getting the better of him, unsure and uneasy about this new environment. While he came into the hospital bruised, broken, and bloody...there may be hope for him yet.
